We are lucky enough to have a short chat with this newly discovered star and he was truly enthusiastic to share his experience with us. So, Let’s get to know about this amazing artist, about his challenges as a musician, and many more.

  • Introduce yourself to our audience, what genre of music do you consider your work to be?

Hello everyone, my name is Jeremy-Von-Sammy, known by the stage name “JVS”, I was born on May 2nd, 2000 in South East London and I am of Ghanaian descent. I am Gospel & Afro-Gospel Artist, spreading God’s inspired Words to all generations by sharing his God-given talent.

  • What and who were your early passions and influences, What inspires you to make music?

As a child, I grew up in the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church, praising and worshipping God through music. As well as singing in the Children’s Choir, Youth Choir and the Praise & Worship Ministry. Music is more than a passion for me, and I will always sing praises to God’s name because he is worthy of all recognition. I grew up to love music, and that passion has never left me.

I have been inspired by all the SDA gospel artists and singing groups within the Ghanaian Church. They have impacted my life in a significant way which has allowed me to develop my spiritual gifts and abilities for God’s Glory.

I’m inspired to make music because God has done great things in my life. I can’t thank God enough for his blessing upon my life. If it weren’t for his grace and mercy, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He has blessed me with this musical talent so that I can share his words to all nations and give praise and honour onto his holy name and that in itself is a blessing that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

  • Tell us about that one memorable performance and favorite venue which you still wish to happen again?

When I taught my youth choir the song “I am The Way, The Truth & The Light” and we performed it beautifully at a gospel music concert. It was a day I will never forget, and I pray for more days like this.

  • Any funny Story of a fuck up during your performance where you handled that situation like nothing happened.

Hahaha, when I was singing a solo, and I forgot the lyrics to the song, so I ended up singing random words to cover it up, and to this day I’m surprised no one realized that I flopped.

  • If you could collaborate with any musicians dead/alive, who would you collaborate with and why?

I would collaborate with my Cousin R-Scar, my Brother Malcom Antwi Acheampong & Jonathan McReynolds these are gospel artists that I can relate with on a deeper level to share the gospel to all nations through music in a way that is a blessing to all who hear.

  • Any Tips to keep the balance between professional and music life?

Always put God first and cherish your family because they are your biggest supporters and most importantly value yourself and trust your abilities.

  • What has been your biggest challenge as a Musician? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Discouragement, which I have been able to overcome by focusing on the main reason why I started as a musician and the primary purpose is to give my God all the Glory that he deserves and to make use of my God-given Talent. Through writing and producing songs that will draw people closer to God and to come to understand what a loving God we serve.

  • What Tools and techniques you use to improve your singing/instrumental playing?

I listen to other gospel artists daily and make it a point to gain any advice from them as we build each other up in the industry and learn from each other. I also make it a point to practice singing every day to strengthen my voice and to learn new techniques from other gospel artists.

  • What type of Gadgets and instruments do you use while practicing?

I record vocals as well as using video playlists in regards to vocal warmups and exercises that I often use to develop myself as a musician.

  • What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Trust in God’s timing, not your timing, but God’s time. As a believer have faith that God is preparing something great in your life, he wants the best for you so be patient, trust his words and commit all your hopes and worries in prayer to the Lord. We serve a gracious and loving God who will never leave us nor forsake us. God is working!
